External Counterpulstation (ECP) System

NICORE™ Home | What is ECP? | What Happens During ECP Treatment? | Proven Treatment | Procedure Description | ScottCare's Commitment | Clinical Considerations | ECP Poster

The NICORE ECP system provides an opportunity to treat and improve the quality of life for cardiac patients who are refractory to medications and who are not candidates for surgical revascularization. To date, the NICORE system is installed at over 200 sites nationwide and provides many features that have become the industry standards.

ECP is designed to improve heart function by increasing blood flow to the heart muscle and decreasing the heart’s workload. Clinical studies have shown that ECP improves the balance between the amount of oxygen the heart needs and the amount it receives. Researchers have theorized that the effects of ECP stimulate collateral blood vessel development within the heart, providing alternative pathways around blocked coronary arteries.
